C. J. Uzomah, the son of Xavier and Stephanie Uzomah, attended North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia, and played quarterback there. During his senior year, he threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 74 yards, and had 168 receiving yards and one touchdown. He passed for 1,750 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior and ran for 800 yards and 10 more.
Uzomah, who was primarily a blocking tight end at Auburn, caught only 29 passes in four seasons, but seven of them were touchdowns. While at Auburn, he majored in Marketing. He threw a 4-yard touchdown pass as a freshman. Uzomah, along with teammates Angelo Blackson and Jermaine Whitehead, competed in the 2015 Medal of Honor Bowl, catching one pass for 29 yards to help the National team defeat the American team 26-14. It was announced on January 17, 2015, that Uzomah had accepted his invitation to play in the 2014 Senior Bowl. Uzomah caught a nine-yard pass and was part of the South team that lost the Reese’s Senior Bowl 34-13 on January 24, 2015. Despite participating in both all-star games, Uzomah was not one of the 19 tight ends invited to the NFL Combine.
