I more and more think being male but claiming non-binary or queer is just an excuse to publicly display horrible fashion sense and painted shiny nails...because those very solid binary traits are very solidly enby traits...

It's just like when men started wearing earnings. First it was all about breaking a stereotype that men could do that in one ear. Then both and now it so common no one bats an eye. I remember in the early 2000s Antonio Banderas and Johnny Depp had painted nails, either black or platinum silver.

Over ten years ago, in Seattle, I saw a grocery clerk with a perfect French manicure. Other than his nails, he was very masculine looking, wearing the Seattle uniform of jeans and a flannel shirt. He must have worn gloves while he was stocking shelves, to protect his manicure. At the time, I assumed he was a drag queen when he wasn't working in the grocery store. But who knows, he could have been straight. Bottom line - this "fad" has been around for a long time.

I think painted nails are weird on both men and women. I never got the attraction or the obsession.

About 10-20 years ago lots of straight guys who were into metal had their nails painted black and wore their hair long. It was fairly common in my neck of the woods. That whole metal subculture has pretty much died out though.
